Established in 1991 and located in Sacramento, The Kitchen has been providing unparalleled dining experiences to diners since it opened its doors in 1991. Owned and run by the Selland Family along with Executive Chef Kelly McCown, the landmark restaurant continues to sell out nightly to a packed house after more than 20 years. The Kitchen has been awarded the top Zagat ratings, honors from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator, the AAA Five Diamond Award, and a nod as a semi-finalist for a James Beard "Outstanding Restaurant" Award.

 

ABOUT SELLAND FAMILY RESTAURANTS
Selland Family Restaurants (SFR) is a local, family-run group of farm-to-fork focused restaurants. The group includes venerable local institution The Kitchen Restaurant, downtown Sacramento hot spot Ella Dining Room and Bar, two Selland's Market-Café locations, as well as OBO' Italian (coming in 2016). SFR has been family-owned and operated for over twenty years. The restaurants are acclaimed locally, regionally, nationally, 

 

The ideal candidates will have excellent social skills, be highly motivated and feel comfortable working in a demanding position that requires multi-tasking while providing the highest levels of service. Candidates also should have sufficient experience and food/wine/liquor knowledge to hit the ground running. Kitchen Porters are responsible for maintaining customer service according to Restaurant standards while  delivering food, bussing tables, cleaning and maintaining the restaurant. This Associate has the knowledge of and maintains sanitary food handling practices. Servers interact with guests in a positive manner by assisting them promptly, and approaching them in a hospitable, friendly way.

 

In addition the candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintaining the highest level of service and hospitality according to Restaurant standards
  • Maintains an awareness of food and product information, promotions, special offers and advertisements
  • Knowledge of and maintaining sanitary food handling practices and restaurant cleanliness before, during, and after shift
  • Communicates guest requests to co-workers and/or management in a prompt, efficient manner
  • Ascertain guest satisfaction throughout service
  • Cooperates and interacts with colleagues in a positive, respectful manner and with a team approach, offering to assist as needed in order to ensure flawlwss guest service
  • Abide by all state, federal regulations and restaurant liquor policies pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Reports to work on time and as assigned per the schedule on a regular, consistent basis

 

Requirements

  • A valid California Food Handler Card is required
  • A minimum of three years of fine dining expierence preferred
  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a courteous, friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry food and beverage trays for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and guests in person and on the phone
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground, including mats and steps, freely accessing all areas of the restaurant including the restaurant floor, stock/prep areas, and the kitchen
  • Ability to operate and use restaurant equipment and appliances necessary to the service of the guest
  • Ability to be exposed to extremes in water temperature, humidity and moisture
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
