Established in 1991 and located in Sacramento, The Kitchen has been providing unparalleled dining experiences to diners since it opened its doors in 1991. Owned and run by the Selland Family along with Executive Chef Kelly McCown, the landmark restaurant continues to sell out nightly to a packed house after more than 20 years. The Kitchen has been awarded the top Zagat ratings, honors from Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator, the AAA Five Diamond Award, and a nod as a semi-finalist for a James Beard "Outstanding Restaurant" Award.

 

ABOUT SELLAND FAMILY RESTAURANTS
Selland Family Restaurants (SFR) is a local, family-run group of farm-to-fork focused restaurants. The group includes venerable local institution The Kitchen Restaurant, downtown Sacramento hot spot Ella Dining Room and Bar, two Selland's Market-Café locations, as well as OBO' Italian (coming in 2016). SFR has been family-owned and operated for over twenty years. The restaurants are acclaimed locally, regionally, nationally.

 

Requirements

Cook Position Summary:

A Cook is responsible for maintaining food quality and customer satisfaction according to Restaurant standards while cleaning, receiving, preparing and stocking product.  This Associate has the knowledge of and maintains sanitary food handling practices according to SOPs set forth by the Restaurant and the California Health Code. The Associate interacts with customers and employees in a positive manner by assisting them promptly, and approaching them in a hospitable, knowledgeable, and friendly way.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High School diploma preferred but not required
  • Graduate of a culinary institute preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years of food preparation experience required
  • Demonstrate cooking skills and ability to follow established menus and recipes
  • Knowledge of food ingredients and preparations
  • Must have a valid California Food Handler Card

 

Essential Physical & Mental Functions:

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors in person and on the phone
  • Ability to read and write to accurately complete transactions and all required documentation
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground, including mats and steps, freely accessing all areas of the restaurant
  • Ability to stand for entire shift
  • The ability to quickly move your hands, fingers and wrists in order to make fast, simple, repeated movements
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body, arms and legs.  To exert maximum muscle force to lift, push pull or carry objects
  • Ability to operate and use kitchen equipment and appliances necessary to run the Restaurant
  • Ability to be exposed to extremes in water temperature, humidity and wetness
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing 0-50 pounds
